* Update: I am still editing and adding some chapters. I hope to have a finished draft by the end on June, or maybe May.
I can finally say my first draft of my memoir The Bipolar Writer is put together. It has been a struggle because I have been so busy. Now it is time for proofreading and editing at a more serious level. I am giving myself the rest of March to edit my memoir, and I will start talking to a few self-publishers this week (I have already talked to one extensively.)
For those who have experience in this area, do you have any recommendations? I am looking for a reasonable price (as like most self-publish authors I am paying out-of-pocket) but one of my primary needs is a company that will do proofreading and editing. I am doing my own editing, and I can’t afford to pay someone to edit my work so if it is included in the price that will help me. I am so connected to my work its easy to miss things.
Anyway. I am super excited to share this milestone with you!
P.S. If you can donate to the publishing of my memoir I would greatly appreciate it. I will be forever grateful, and you will get a mention on a special page of my memoir. I have kept a list of all who have donated— and if you have already. Thank you!!! It means the world to me!

Upgrading The Bipolar Writer Blog to Business
I am looking to expand The Bipolar Writer blog to new territories that include having the blog sell books for other artists (if I can make everything work). I am also looking to sell my own book here on my blog. I hate asking for donations but I have to do what I can.

All I can say is take editing seriously. I thought I was buttoned up and ready to publish when I decided to take heed and have an editor look it over. I would have been ashamed if I had put out my book the way it looked before I had it edited. Maybe a student would edit it? Any colleges near you? Say you’ll give them cred. by naming them as editor??? Just a thought. ~kim

I never thought about that! Thank you for the tip. You’re right thought. I don’t want to make that mistake I am going to to take editing seriously.

That’s amazing congrats! What an accomplishment to finish your memoir :). Best editing tip other than hiring help that I’ve heard is retype the book start to finish. In doing so you’ll come across the minute details that you may have overlooked

That sounds like a good idea. The only issue is it’s a lot of work and I am still a full time student.

Grats – what a milestone! Like it’s already been said, I’d recommend taking the editing process seriously, and not rushing the process. When I self-published my first book, I should have spent more time in the drafting process. My best suggestion, if money is tight, is to ask around for beta-readers who would be interested in doing some light editing for you. You can also ask a friend or family member whom you trust to take a look. I’ve recently started taking commissions for proofreading and editing services and you’re more than welcome to reach out, however, if free is what you’re after, at least for now, I think beta-readers would be a fantastic first step!! Good luck, James! And, congrats again! Writing a book is hard work.

Thank you so much. It wasn’t easy. With school, my blog, and my freelance work I am excited I found the time.

You have so much on your plate! It’s hard enough keeping up with a blog. Keep at it, you’re already doing awesome, and it’ll surely pay off later on down the road 🙂
