Stuck on a Stranger

Well… it’s been a while since I’ve shared one of my poems with you. It can be a different sort of raw/openness to share these with the public, a very different way than I feel like most of my blogs are. With my blogs, I do my best to take my life and write it as though I’m telling someone the story of my life, vs. feeling like my blog is a journal. Yet, when I post my poetry, it feels like I am sharing with you a secret page from my personal diary. I hope you enjoy.

It was a smile
Almost subtle, yet bright
My heart sped up a step
My guarded eyes
Found beauty in this stranger’s
Heat flared in my face
I struggle to find
The words I’d prepared
But into the abyss they went.
His voice took over
An introduction
A conversation
Honest, life out in the open
I was hooked
My heart was falling
But his was unavailable
My guard and my heart
Begin their epic battle
To let go or not to let go
I hide, I cover
Trying not to show
Leaving is the only way I know
To keep my heart safe
But now I cannot forget the smile
